Approximate age:244,000 years old=average of minimum (0.088 Ma) and maximum (0.4 Ma)

Dating reference: Dating on this site is controversial. See Mehlman, M. J. (1987). Provenience, age and associations of archaic Homo sapiens crania from Lake Eyasi, Tanzania. Journal of archaeological science, 14(2), 133-162. ; Mehlman, M. J. (1989). Later Quaternary archaeological sequences in northern Tanzania. University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Note that new, tightt dates on from area (~128-88 Ka) are from a frontal fragment found in late 2000's (DomÌnguez-Rodrigo, et al. 2008) and only provide an approximation for the age of the Eyasi cranium. It is likely significantly older, and the old end of the age range used for the Fossilized DB is arbitrarily placed at 400 Ka. Previous age estimates have varied widely, from ~125 Ka (Woodward, 1921; Pycraft et al., 1928; Oakley, 1957; Clark, 1959; Clark et al., 1950, 1968; Klein, 1973, 1994; Santa Luca, 1978; Partridge, 1982; Vrba, 1982; Stringer, 1986) to middle Pleistocene (Klein, 1994; Rightmire, 1998) to later early Pleistocene (Klein, 1973, 1994; Partridge, 1982; Hay, 1976; Walter et al., 1991, 1992; Tamrat et al., 1995; Kimbel, 1995; Delson & van Couvering, 2000)

Key references: presents precise geographic locations and current best date estimates for late Miocene, Pliocene, and Pleistocene sites with human ancestor (hominin) fossils and archaeology.
